Need help with school league tables?
Im looking at the school primary league tables, but I would like to know what would be the best to go by.
You have 2 columns to search by:
CVA - contextual value added which which give some guide to how pupils' attainments have improved.
AGG - aggregate - the total out of 300 across all three Key Stage 2 test subjects of English, maths and science.
CVA is the contextual value added score and APS the average points per pupil.
what column would you use to get the best school in your area?
Don't go by any of these - visit the school and see if it "feels right"!
In a small village school with 5 pupils in Year 6 all these "indicators " can vary widely.
It's not much better in a large primary!
CVA is a score around 100 - below 100 shows that (the pupils in the leaving year) have done worse than they would have done (on average) in another school. [Of course, that's not to say that some didn't do extremely well!!]
When you throw in a couple of special needs children then the figures can be a very poor description of the school.
AGG is a comparison of the scores in English, Maths and Science ... currently Science tests have been abandoned at KS2 so there goes another 'standardised comparison"
The final comparator, I suspect, was meant to be Attainment figures or the percentage of children at, or above, the National Average (Level 4) and those beyond the National average (Level 5).
There usually is a three year average and a three year trend shown on the tables.
You might also like to look at the combination which is the "school profile" which is the 'official figures' with the school's answers.
Best bet, by far, is to visit the school and ask questions and see if the answers fit in with what you know!
