Iwould like to know if I can change the lock to a lock that does not have a master key?
My apt lock has been changed once by the maintaince where I live and still someone is coming in and
taking things when I am not home I changed the bottom lock and still someone came in, is there any way I can get a get a lock that can not be opened with a master key? It seems to me that maybe maintaince has
a master key for a certain key lock.
Just buy your own deadbolt lock and install it, it comes with keys and you'll be the only one that has them, they're really easy to change. It seems like its definitely the maintenance staff robbing you if the lock has been changed by them, and the theft is still continuing. They don't have one master key but all apartments have a box filled with keys(and duplicates) for every unit in the complex, and when they change the lock they throw out the old keys and replace them with a copy of the new key. Most likely under the terms of your lease you're not supposed to change locks (incase a water leak or some other emergency occurs in your apartment while you're away), however if they're stealing from you then I would change it anyways, and file a complaint with the office if you're certain it can't be anyone else (perhaps a friend you're letting in stealing right under your nose or something), if that gets you no where then call the police and file a complaint with them.
